End of Year Campaign

As the holidays draw near, we are all reminded of the things we appreciate the most – family, friends, health, happiness and a decent place to live. The unfortunate reality is that almost 10,000 individuals in our own community live in substandard housing, so they do not have a decent place to live.

Over the last year, Habitat Cabarrus has served 46 families through its various housing solutions which included four new home builds, twenty-nine critical repair projects, two recycled homes and 11 families that received assistance with transitional housing. None of this would have been possible without your generous support!

We are so very fortunate to work side by side with dedicated individuals in our community that have chosen to become victors of their situations instead of victims. We would like to introduce you to one of our new homeowners, Latasha.

eoy 2018 print new 2One night, Latasha’s grandfather observed her walking home to her rental house after finishing work and then leaving shortly after to walk to her second job. It was at this point that her grandfather decided to help her by providing her with information on Habitat Cabarrus, so that she and her family could work towards having a decent place to live.

Latasha was renting a home that was in terrible condition. There were no cabinet doors in the kitchen, bad flooring, outdated electrical and plumbing, pest infestation and mold. In addition, there were broken windows, no insulation and overcrowding. Latasha and her daughter shared a room (the living room), and her son slept in the one bedroom in the rental house.

After qualifying and working towards becoming a Habitat homeowner her dream finally came true! Latasha asked for her new home to be painted purple in honor of her mother who was recently murdered in an act of domestic violence. Seeing the tears well up in Latasha’s eyes when she was given the key to her new home was a great reminder of the privilege it is for Habitat Cabarrus to help serve families in our own community. Without YOUR generous donations, we could not do the work that we do for the Cabarrus County community!

The housing needs in our community continue to grow and we need your help to provide families with a home for the holidays. As Habitat Cabarrus celebrates its 30th year of serving families, we ask that you join Habitat Cabarrus’ board and staff in the 30 FOR 30 End of Year Campaign. Thanks to the generosity of The Leon Levine Foundation and an anonymous donor, every dollar you donate will be matched dollar for dollar up to $30,000 – 30 FOR 30! Donations from existing and new donors will allow us to reach the $30,000 goal! Please take advantage of this exciting chance to have your generosity matched dollar for dollar to support the mission of Habitat Cabarrus!
