Teams and Community Gather to Raise First Wall for Women Build Home Celebration
Concord, NC — April 15, 2016 — Habitat Cabarrus, Julie Clinkscale, and the 2016 Women Build teams and corporate sponsors invite the public to join them April 28 to raise walls of love at a special construction event held at 672 Magnolia Street in Concord, NC at 6:00 p.m.
Attendees will experience the excitement that occurs when the first walls go up in a partner family’s new home as team leaders and corporate sponsors raise the first wall of the home. This event kicks-off both National Women Build Week and construction for the 2016 Habitat Cabarrus Women Build project.
Women Build is a Habitat for Humanity program that empowers women to fully participate in the construction process. What began in 1991 as a single Habitat house built by an all-women crew grew into an international movement responsible for more than 2,300 homes worldwide. Women Build includes women without excluding men.
Habitat Cabarrus marks the 25th anniversary of the first Women Build project by bringing women from all walks of life together to construct a home for Julie Clinkscale, a hard-working grandmother raising her five granddaughters.
“We are excited to host a Women Build in Cabarrus County this year,” said Katie Page, resource development director of Habitat Cabarrus. “This is a great opportunity for women of all skill levels to acquire new skills, to network, and to help a family build a decent and affordable place they can call home”
National Women Build Week 2016 runs April 30-May 8 and brings together women to devote at least one day to building decent and affordable housing in their local communities. More than 80,000 women from all 50 states have volunteered in previous years. The Habitat Cabarrus build will begin on April 30, 2016 and anticipated completion is July 2016
This event is open to the public.
