After Nearly 10 Years of Service, Shirley Kennerly Is Retiring From Habitat Cabarrus
Shirley came to Habitat Cabarrus in 2007 with 29 years of experience as an educator with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. During her tenure, her role with CMS changed from the classroom to Family Advocate/Educator. Although she loved working with families, she had no way of following up with them after the school year ended. She wanted to make a lasting impact on families and to be able to see the success achieved through strategic partnerships. Her passion for education and the well-being of the entire family led her to Habitat.
As Family Services Coordinator, Shirley has been able to build and maintain relationships with Habitat families. When partner families complete our program, they not only leave with education and a new home, but also a friend and mentor in Shirley. Over the years, Shirley has been a key source of inspiration and motivation for our partner families and our staff. Shirley says that it has been “a privilege and pleasure working with the families and the staff at Habitat Cabarrus. I’ve been able to watch families grow and thrive in this environment and I truly feel like I’ve been able to make a difference in the lives of the homeowners.”
We will miss Shirley’s wisdom and positivity as she transitions to a full-time grandmom and we wish her a happy and healthy retirement!
