Critical Home Repair (CHR) addresses major safety concerns in homes by making necessary repairs at a subsidized rate, allowing homeowners to remain in their homes and preserving Cabarrus County’s dwindling affordable housing stock.

Included, but are not limited to:

  • Unsafe roofing or flooring
  • Lack of heat
  • Wheelchair ramps
CHR does not address
  • Cosmetic repairs or painting
  • Replacing carpeting or flooring (unless for structural reasons)
  • Bathroom renovations or remodels (unless for accessibility issues or as needed following plumbing repairs)

Step 01

Initial Review

  1. Single-family, detached houses only
  2. Home must be in Cabarrus County
  3. Applicant must own and occupy the home (name must be on title)
  4. All property taxes must be paid in full

Application

If you meet the requirements in the initial review, please complete an application. Application must be turned in to Habitat Cabarrus with all required and necessary documents.

Home Repair Application

Download the Home Repair Application for Assistance. Print it out and bring it into our office at 8 Church Street S, Concord, NC 28025. With the application please provide a copy of your proof of income. Before applying please be sure to review the Repair Guidelines and Process.

Step 03

Income Verification

Applicants must be low income – fall between 20% and 60% of the Area Median Income (AMI). The current range is $9,382 for a one person household at 20% of the AMI to $53,580 for an eight person household at 60%.

Credit & background check

  1. All applicants will have an income qualification check and mortgage must be current
  2. A background check is required for all household members aged 16-and-older.
