Another way Habitat for Humanity Cabarrus County provides affordable housing solutions is through its home repair and urgent repairs programs for people who need them. Separate from its homebuilding efforts - repairs and critical repairs programs allow Habitat to extend its mission of eliminating substandard housing and improving communities by lending a hand to a greater number of families in need and preventing area homes from falling into disrepair. Types of repairs include roofs, doors, plumbing, windows, electrical, and HVAC.

Habitat for Humanity Cabarrus County has worked with the City of Kannapolis for the past four years on a community renovation program targeted to help elderly, disabled and single-parent homeowners address minor repairs that will help keep their homes from falling into substandard conditions.
Habitat Cabarrus' repair program is also guided by a task force of representatives from the Community Development Departments of Cabarrus County, the cities of Concord and Kannapolis, as well as Cabarrus Meals on Wheels, Red Cross, Cooperative Christian Ministry, the Parish Nurse Program and other community members.
The concept behind the effort is to address the common housing problems each of these agencies find when visiting elderly or disabled clients. Each agency makes a list of specific repairs needed in the homes they've visited, and, based on those recommendations, Habitat volunteers tackle tasks ranging from painting and yard work, to critical repairs, or building handicapped-accessible ramps.
Criteria for Home Repairs
- Work cannot be done on trailers
- The home must be homeowner occupied (repair work is not done on rental property)
- 10-20% of the cost of the repair is expected to be paid by homeowner (or family member). For example, if the repair costs $1,000, the homeowner would be asked to pay $100 - $200 to Habitat (amount is based on income of recipient).
- Work is completed on a first come first serve basis
